feature platform rules.
the following terms of service govern the distribution of royalties and feature fees. these rules apply exclusively to artists on the internal upnext roster. independent users (paid customers) utilizing upnext distribution are entirely exempt from these specific feature protocols.
1. standard feature deductions
should an internal upnext artist choose to utilize an external feature, and that feature requests a percentage of royalties, that specific percentage will be deducted solely from the primary artist's cut. this applies unless the primary artist and the feature have otherwise agreed to a flat cash buyout.
2. royalty splitting protocol
for external features who choose to take a percentage of royalties rather than a cash buyout, the following redistribution policy strictly applies across the platform:
- the feature will receive exactly 50% of their requested royalty percentage.
- the remaining 50% of the requested amount will be split between the primary artist, the producer, and the upnext platform.
3. upnext artists as features & charging fees
if an internal upnext artist acts as a feature on an external track, or charges a fee for a feature, the same rule applies in reverse. the upnext artist must receive at least 50% of their requested amount or fee.
the remaining 50% of that requested cut or fee will be divided between the upnext artist, the upnext platform, and the producer who created the instrumental.
platform recommendation: if the beat was created by an in-house upnext producer, we strongly recommend that the upnext artist charges the external feature a separate "producer fee" to ensure fair compensation.
4. mandatory terms of service agreement
all external and internal features must explicitly agree to these platform rules before any collaborative work is uploaded or promoted. failure to agree to these terms of service will result in a halt of distribution for that specific track.
